Best Date Ideas for Busy Couples

Whether it’s the demand of your careers or taking care of your little humans, date night can quickly take a back seat. When you first get into a relationship it seems impossible to NOT go on a date a couple times a week but as you get more comfortable in your relationship it seems impossible to have date night even once a month. According to Harry Benson from the Marriage Foundation and Steve McKay from the University of Lincoln, after studying 10,000 couples with a small child, couples that went on date night at least once a month had a significant chance of still being together after 10 years.

Date night doesn’t need to be your typical 3-4 hour dinner and a movie. In fact, date night doesn’t even need to be at night. We do date mornings more often than date night. Check out some of the best date ideas we’ve found that you can do in under an hour.

1. Grab Coffee On The Way To Work

This is one of our favorites. If possible, drive your partner to work and grab coffee at your local coffee shop or gas station and use the drive in as your date time. If you don’t have the ability to take them to work meet at your local coffee shop and sit down and enjoy each others company for 20-30 minutes. It’s so quick, easy, and cheap, and gets your day off on the right foot.

2. Make A Fun Dinner Together

Find a recipe that sounds delicious but you’ve never tried before. Not only will you be getting your date time in, you might even learn some new cooking skills. Check out The Roasted Roots aphrodisiac recipes to get your partner excited for after dinner ; )

3. Go For A Run, Walk or Bike Ride

This date idea has many benefits on top of helping you build a meaningful relationship: fresh air, vitamin D and exercise. All of these can have a positive impact on your mental health, which will help you be a better partner. In addition, exercise releases endorphins, which is a natural aphrodisiac. To make it more interesting, we like to walk around neighborhoods and look up houses for sale to see what they cost.

4. Make Popcorn & Watch A New Show

This is one we do often. We’ll break out the popcorn machine and our favorite seasonings and make a big bowl of popcorn, and then watch an episode or two of our favorite shows.

5. Grab Happy Hour

A great cocktail can help melt away the stressors of the day and make you more relaxed. Meet up with your partner at your favorite spot for a quick drink or two, maybe even an app! Try to avoid talking about work or the kids. Focus on talking about fun things: your future together, vacation planning, or exciting things in your life. We like to find spots with live music, as it adds an element of fun.
